2010 Calendar of Events

Saturday 15 May 2010 - Shoalhaven Mayoral Ball

The Shoalhaven Mayoral Ball has this year chosen to support SFNSW's  Helping Hands - a volunteer service that provides individuals living with a mental illness with support and companionship. Funds raised on the evening will go towards Helping Hands' dream of securing and renovating the West St Tennis Complex as it's future home. Monday 17 May - Dr Joanne Nicholson lecture

Dr. Joanne Nicholson, Professor of Psychiatry and Family Medicine, University of Massachusetts Medical School, Center for Mental Health Services - will be presenting a special program on the topic Mental Illness: Understanding the Impact on Families and How to Help at the Parliament House Theatrette at 6pm. The evening will also include a theatrical reading from the ground-breaking play Inside Out. Actors Valerie Bader and Benn Welford will enact the struggles of mother and son, as they come to terms with his emerging schizophrenia. Tuesday 18 May - Nowra Laughter Yoga Breakfast

SFNSW is hosting a breakfast for the local Nowra community to raise mental health awareness. There will also be a session of Laughter Yoga – just to get everybody started! From 8.30am – 10.30am. For further information please contact (02) 44 23 4987.

Wednesday 19 May
Annual Poetry Competition

The Poetry Competition is open to all mental health carers and consumers in NSW and the 2010 winner will be announced at a Reception Party (12.30pm-3pm) at the SFNSW offices in Gladesville. Contact Jessica for further details on (02) 9879 2600.

Carers High Tea

The Sanctuary Respite centre invites carers of people with a mental illness to a High Tea at St Patrick's College North Head. Contact Katherine or Jenny for further details on (02) 9907 6191.

Thursday 20 May
'The Hut' D2DL - Open Day

The Hut at Ryde is having an Open Day to raise awareness of their D2DL service in the local community.        Activities will include games, talks & BBQ - gold coin donation. For further information please contact Josh on 9878 3468.

Hunter Forum

To celebrate Schizophrenia Awareness Week and 21 years of the Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW in the Hunter Region The Sunflower Centre and Carer Assist invite you to a Forum and Light Lunch at Newcastle Panthers on Thursday May 20, 2010 From 10.30am until 1.30pm. The program will include presentations on the following: Support Groups, Carer Assist, High School Education Program, Police Mental Health Intervention training and Community Partnerships. Friends of Sunflower House Dinner Dance

An event to further raise the profile of Sunflower House and its associated services, to promote knowledge about issues related to mental health, and to reduce the stigma often experienced by the people living with mental illness, their carers and family members. Shoalhaven Schizophrenia Awareness Week Fundraising Dinner

The Shoalhaven Mental Health Fellowship invite you to join with us in attending the 2010 Schizophrenia Awareness Week Fundraising Dinner on Friday 28th May at 7pm. Venue: Worrigee House, Worrigee Road, Worrigee. Adult Tickets: $50.00, Pensioners and Volunteers: $25.00, Children under 12: $15.00
