Assisting with Support

The Schizophrenia Fellowship NSW has been running support groups since its creation in 1985 in both rural and metropolitan NSW. All support groups are run by volunteers and provide an opportunity for people to get together and share experiences, problems, solutions, ideas and friendship.

The Fellowship's support groups cater to various specialty groups and 15 of these groups are specifically for those who are carers of someone with a mental illness. A carer is defined as someone who has a loved one or friend with a mental illness, being, but not limited to schizophrenia, bipolar, schizo-affective disorder, depression or anxiety.

Every group makes newcomers welcome.

If you would like to attend a support group, a Carer Advocate can assist you in finding a group that can meet your needs.

Tip: Carer Assist also has specialist Advocates for:

  • Carers from a non-English speaking background in the Sydney South West
  • Young Carers who have parents with a mental illness in Wagga Wagga
