We must not rush to judgment about the Waterlow killings' link to mental illness. We still don't know what happened in Randwick on Monday, where Nick and Chloe Waterlow died after being stabbed. A two-year-old girl lies in hospital, and her uncle Antony Waterlow, who has schizophrenia, is missing, thought to be a suspect. But what we do know is that this awful tragedy will have ripple effects that go beyond the family and friends of the victims of the violence.

I take strong issue with the reporting of the horrific and terribly sad Waterlow slayings in Randwick. I believe leading with a reference to Anthony Waterlow's alleged mental illness, something which to this point is only hearsay, is both irresponsible and demonstrates a sensationalism that would be better suited to a tabloid.
