15th Annual Christmas Lunch 2009
On Friday 18th December we had our 15th Annual Christmas Luncheon at Pioneer Clubhouse and we had a huge turnout. Even a bus strike and poor weather weren't going to stop us from enjoying our yearly tradition. We had lots of visitors - families, supporters, businesses, volunteers and it was great to see so many people in support of Pioneer Clubhouse. We had over 100 people come along to the luncheon and we all managed to fit into the existing building.
Unfortunately our extension is still under construction, so we were unable to utilise that space. The night before we heard the bad news that all the state buses were going on strike, and the next morning we planned out what we had to do. We were lucky enough that Manly Rentals had a bus not in use that we could use. We sent out a message via SMS to members who have mobile phones that we could pick them up and then we drove some routes to pick some of the people up. Thanks to Colin who drove the bus, and to all the people who answered phone calls and arranged transport for people. We put up a shelter to keep people out of the rain, and people appreciated it very much.
Congratulations to the winners of our raffle, and thank you to people who donated gifts for the raffle - Renee and Julia from Juren Beauty Salon who donated the major prize, and Manly Vale Pharmacy and Dee Why RSL who donated gift vouchers. Thanks finally to the Restaurant and Maintenance Unit for providing the lunch free of charge. They catered for everyone and we had lots of leftovers, so well done and thank you again! We hope everyone felt welcome and enjoyed the day, it certainly seemed so. Until next Christmas Luncheon, we hope to see you involved in the work ordered day, any of our education and employment dinners or our fortnightly socials.
Rockclimbing
On Thursday 17th December after the work-ordered-day, we went rockclimbing at Rockhouse at Brookvale. Thank you to Rockhouse for doing a discount price for us at $5 per person! It was well worth it. Everyone enjoyed it and were talking it up as one of the best socials in a long time. So come along next time if you're keen for a great night out!
Westpac's '100 Things We Love About Balgowlah' campaign
On Friday 10th July, Westpac Balgowlah visited Pioneer with art supplies for our members to create an artpiece to describe what they love about Balgowlah, in line with Westpac's '100 Things We Love About Balgowlah' campaign. The artworks will be sold at a VIP night and all proceeds will go towards the Pioneer Clubhouse building fund.
Below are some of the photos of the Westpac visit.
