 Lantern Mental Health 2.0 Unconference

The second Lantern Mental Health 2.0 Unconference will be held in Albert Park on Friday March 2nd 2012 from 9.45am to 4.00pm. The event will provide the opportunity for people to explore and discuss social media, the internet, technology and mental health. What are the advantages of this ‘always connected’ world? What are the dangers? What are the big issues? How can we use it to improve our mental health and mental health service delivery?

Schizophrenia Awareness Week, 14th-24th May, 2012

Schizophrenia Awareness Week is an annual event held in May. It provides an opportunity to raise community awareness of schizophrenia and mental illness in general. We do this through a range of activities, including information displays and events across NSW, a Symposium, and media coverage.

We have organised a range of activities for Schizophrenia Awareness Week designed to engage different sections of the community. These include our Annual Symposium and Annual Poetry Competition

Schizophrenia Awareness Week 2012 Symposium will be held on Saturday 19th May 8:30am - 4pm

The theme for this years symposium is the "National Focus on Mental Health" with guest speakers Professor Vaughan Carr (UNSW School of Psychiatry) and Robym Kruk (CEO National Mental Health Commission)

 

 

Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities 2012 (16th-17th April 2012 Sydney Harbour Marriott at Circular Quay)

This workshop is aimed at breaking down some of the carriers that those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities face today.  In particular Improving mental health outcomes for the issues that those from CALD backgrounds and communities have in accessing public mental health services. The workshop on mental healh with be given by Sebastian Rosenberg, Senior Lecturer, Mental Health Policy, Brain & Mind Research Institute, School of Medical Sciences, University of Sydney. 

Topics discussed will be:

  •  Community-based services: supporting through bilingual and culturally-appropriate services
  • Funding for CALD mental health
  •  Depression and anxiety in the CALD communities
  • Suicide-prevention: The Department of Health and Ageing’s National Suicide Prevention Strategy
  • Identifying cultural identity changes and symptoms that place one at risk of suicide
  • Culture shock
