SAW 2012

Schizophrenia Awareness Week is an annual event held in May. It provides an opportunity to raise community awareness of schizophrenia and mental illness in general. We do this through a range of activities, including information displays and events across NSW, a Symposium, and media coverage. 

We have organised a range of activities for Schizophrenia Awareness Week designed to engage different sections of the community. These include our Annual Symposium and Annual Poetry Competition.

To raise awareness  of Schizophrenia.  This year we will be hearing from people who have a lived experience of Schizophrenia .  We will also be hearing from our tobacco  free program .

So come and hear from those who have found ways to live with Schizophrenia and still  love life.
Open to all. Light Refreshments will be served.

Harmony House is a recovery centre that assists people  living with severe and persistent mental illness  in the community. We in collaboration with our members and other community service  providers aim to support and improve the quality of life  for  those living with mental illness.  We encourage and empower our clients to gain day to day living skills, providing education and raising awareness about mental illness, stigma and treatments
available, helping them get back on to the  path to recovery and  realise  their dreams.

"Assisting With Schizophrenia" at Campbelltown
on Thursday 17th May 2012 from 10.30am to 2pm with a light lunch provided.

"What is schizophrenia and what help and support is available for the person I care for with this diagnosis?"

The Assisting with Schizophrenia education program can help answer this question. Assisting with Schizophrenia is part of the Assisting Families education program. This is a Carer Assist education program consisting of 14 individual modules each focusing on a specific topic for families, friends and anyone who cares for someone with a mental illness.

Shoalhaven Mental Health Fellowship’s Schizophrenia Awareness Week Fundraising Dinner

Friday 25th May 2012; at 7.00 pm [‘til late] at the Worrigee House Reception Centre, Worrigee Road, Worrigee.

Please distribute, circulate, promote and advertise throughout this sector of the galaxy [far and wide – every corner of the globe]; and place flyers in appropriate spaces; and the committee expects to see you all there [or be square, triangular or spherical].

The Fellowship is twenty-one so we are pulling no stops out to entertain you all, have a fun-filled enjoyable evening [and raise some much needed funds for the mental health community].  We have Associate Professor Anthony Harris [the incoming President of the Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW Inc to enlighten you all and knock your socks off with his outstanding knowledge of mental illness and mental health and a band that is all the rave in our local area “Southerly Change”.
