Want to help? The Schizophrenia Fellowship is a a member-based, non-profit organisation. What does that mean? Well, put simply it means that without the support of people within the community, we would cease to exist. We receive a small amount of funding from government but rely heavily on donations and voluntary efforts to keep our services up and running. So if you are in a generous mood, there are many ways you can help out! Maybe you would like to volunteer your services. Our Telephone Help and Referral Service is essentially run by volunteers who find the work both challenging and rewarding. To become a telephone volunteer, you will need to participate in an intensive training program and be able to commit yourself to the program for one year. We find that this option suits students who are studying psychology, as it enhances their academic qualifications with valuable, hands-on experience. However, volunteers are needed in all aspects of our service delivery and we recommend that you discuss your options with our Volunteer Coordinator so that we find the position that's right for you! Why don't you become a financial member of the Fellowship? In doing so, not only will you be helping the Fellowship financially, you will also be linking in with a huge network of mental health professionals, consumers and carers. You will also receive a bi-monthly newsletter and will be kept up-to-date with the latest news and developments in the area. Remember - there is strength in numbers so join today!
Think you would make a good Group Leader? Why don't you start up a support group in your area? Support groups are a vital part of the Fellowship and are established to help people who are living with schizophrenia (consumers, carers and related health workers). Currently, there are 30 support groups throughout the state of New South Wales.
