If you have any questions about mental illness...

...Then you've come to the right place! In this section of the web site, you can:

  • Join our on-line discussion room
  • Send us an email
  • Provide us with feedback

It is important for people to reach out to one another when faced with difficult situations - that's why support groups are so popular. However, due to restraints of time (hey it's a busy world), location or even lack of transport, it is not always possible to attend support groups. That's where discussion forums come in. They are anonymous, which is far less intimidating for a lot of people, and they are instantaneous. All you have to do is type in your question or comment and sit back and wait for the replies. You can also enter the forum as a guest (i.e. without having to register) and simply read what others have written. So happy chatting!

Information for students

Unfortunately, because we are a nonprofit organisation, we cannot spend time answering your homework questions!! We literally get hundreds of uni and school questions emailed to us each month, so we have come up with another strategy for you. There are a couple of web sites that specialise in answering your questions and we have sourced some of the better ones for you:

All experts: have a huge range of topics that you can review. Questions are answered by volunteers who are experts in their field. This service is free.

Google: have an excellent Q&A facility, which are answered by paid researchers. This is probably the best option but it does cost money. Also - they are wary of answering homework questions, so it pays to do your research beforehand.

Yahoo: have a comprehensive ask a medical expert section which is free.

If you are feeling particularly studious, try these options:

  • Contact your local university and ask them how to use their on-line databases - you can search books and journals in all areas of academia - particularly mental health (psychinfo, medline etc.).
  • For information on medication and other health-related info, go to Mr Doctor.
  • Go to our links section and search external web sites if you cannot find the answer you are looking for here.
